Question Motor & ESC Experts I Need Some Advice!

Ok guys here the deal...

Running a Mamba Max 7700 Motor & ESC Combo with a Tenergy 5200 2s 30C Lipo..
Before the "Summer Heat" got here she was running fine, I am still running stock Pinion & Spur Gears as well.. Now that Summer is here and the temps outside are hitting 90+ it seems I cant even get through 1 pack before my ESC seems to shut down.. I guess Castle has an "over heating" built in to the ESC to keep from burning things up.

I know its the ESC shutting down because I can still use my Steering servo, if I turn the power off and let it cool off for a few minutes I can then use it again.. Do you guys think its just the outside temp or do I need to change the gearing or get smaller Lipo's?? Does the Discharge Rate "30c" have anything to do with the issues??

is there a fan on your ESC? If not you can go to radio shack and pick up a small fan to mount above your ESC. I have done this, and it helped alot

i would think you would not need smaller lipo's as far as the C rating, if anything bigger ones would help as it would not limit the esc when its peaking for amps.
I run thunderpower 5000mah 40c packs in mine with the sidewinder/5700kv setup and do not have issues with heat, I did however put allof the settings on the low side and punch control all the way up.

by chance are you running a shroud of any kind over the chassis?

I live in the Arizona desert during the summer I like to drop the pinion down about three teeth . I'm currently running 14t pinion and stock spur using mamba pro esc and mamba 5700 kv and its still running cool in almost 110 deg. outside temps.

Its only weird because it didnt get this hot when the temps outside were cooler I have ran and had these LIPO's since I got the Blitz and am only now having this heat issue.. Its weird.. I did however mess around with the CC ESC Settings via the PC so maybe I need to go back and re set those??

And no not running any sort of shroud at the moment..

What are your settings at? Brake Curve, Punch Control etc??

Thanks man!

The 7700 is a fast motor for the Blitz. You likely need to gear down to keep your temperatures down.
Try going to 15 tooth pinion.

As for the ESC's settings, Yes, changing them can have significant changes for heat.
One of the biggest factors I've seen when making changes is the Drag brake. The minimum that works for you is what you should set it to if you even need it.

Thanks Austin,

Well I went and hooked my ESC up to the laptop, nothing was out of line.. Drag Brake was Off, Punch Control I did have set to MIN and everything else I re set again to Default. Ran a pack through it today "late evening" and it never got hot or shutdown like it has been doing. I honestly think the "heat & humidity" is the problem! But I'll run a few more packs through it tomorrow and see what happens..

I run my sidewinder at low timing, middle brakes, high punch control, 1st throttle profile...

If does also sound like its from the outside air temps, i would try a ESE motor mount, it works great to get some heat off motor.

Ok went back through all the settings via the PC everything is at Factory Defaults, the outside temps were in the mid 80's this morning and guess what guys.. Not once did the thing overheat, or even come close to getting hot.. So I am guessing its just the time of the day I was running this thing. I guess I need to wait for it to cool off

Here's my plan though I am going to pick up a ESC Cooling fan for it just to be on the safe side. It would suck to be out running having a damn good time only to say "ok guys Monsterman has to pack it in its getting to hot outside for my Castle Creation Set Up & my Blitz" yeah that would suck..

So any advice on what brand ESC Cooling fan I should pick up??

I was checking out AMain Hobbies and came across these that look fairly good..
